What if Gregor Samsa had awakened not as an insect, but as an egg?

This work begins with that question. Inspired by The Metamorphosis, it reimagines the story by replacing the fully transformed body with a state of possibility. An egg, like an unborn child, embodies potential rather than completion. It represents a life that has not yet been defined—a being that still invites care, protection, and expectation.

By imagining Gregor's transformation as a beginning rather than an end, the work asks whether his family might have responded differently. Would they have rejected him as they did in the novel, or would the promise of what he could become have made acceptance possible? Rather than focusing on metamorphosis itself, the work reflects on how appearance, potential, and expectation shape our willingness to care for others.
